Does my daughter NEED a diagnosis?

Hi, I am the mother of a 12 year old girl who has been undergoing assessment for the last two years, still with no diagnosis. I am absolutely convinced that she is an Aspie and our psychologist says she has many many autistic traits however her ADOS and Gilberg came back 'inconclusive' so is not willing to diagnose at this point. Whenever I mention to other workers from school or CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, we're British) about the need for a diagnosis, I'm treated like some neurotic mother and have been told that a diagnosis won't make any difference my daughter will still be my daughter. (She dropped out of school a month after starting comprehensive, which has caused many arguments between myself and school as they're not recognising or understand her difficulty to cope) I always argue this point, as I feel that my daughter will need that diagnosis to help her to understand herself (she knows she is different to some of her peers and has started to ask why) and am worried that not having a diagnosis could have a detrimental affect on her mental well-being in the long term. Am I being the neurotic mother that I feel I am viewed as or is diagnosis really important?
