Could an aspie make a good manager ever? Do you know of any success stories? I was only diagnosed this year after a difficult job, and four years of contracts, many not renewed.
Are there any good apps available for social skills? I still don't catch some sarcasm, and still have some body language interpretation things and minor eye contact irregularities, but few sensory issues. I also had some difficulty with a crying employee. I am doing what I can to catch up, but am in a very rural area where everyone knows everyone, where there are no services to adult aspies and have no family friends around as I was determined to stick things out and be a success story. I still cannot understand stress, and want to know how to work out when people are bored. I have gallons of determination because I love my field, could talk endlessly about it, but must be a supervisor to get paid decently.
Some background on why this is important. I had moved 1000 miles and been made team leader of 8 individuals, having no supervisory experience. At the same time, I was expected to assist with payroll, devise schedules, and make all the public service decisions, and serve customers with no mentoring or positive reinforcement. I still faced every problem with enthusiasm and determination.
But it is not all sad news!
Since then, I have found a smaller job still with a leadership role near my old workplace. I have a supportive supervisor. Three people report to me now. I do no scheduling or payroll. I am lucky and have a job coach to assist me with organizational skills. Things have really improved by leaps and bounds... but at times I lose confidence, like when I deal with former colleagues or when old deficits reappear in new situations.
What is a rural aspie to do???
Family have helped me with conversational question asking lately but I don't wish to overtax them
